The Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) for each academic year is
funded by contributions from Business Leadership Organized for
Catholic Schools (BLOCS) and monies from the Archdiocesan Grant
Fund.
The purpose of these funds is to provide tuition assistance for
those students who wish to receive a Catholic education in an
Archdiocesan high school, but are unable to afford the full cost
of tuition.

A competitive scholastic scholarship program for eligible female
students is available through funds established by the estate of
philanthropist Charles E. Ellis.
-
Eligibility is
limited to female students who meet the following
requirements:
-
Reside in Philadelphia
Live in a household where one or both parents are absent
(functionally orphaned)
Are or will be enrolled in grades 9-12
Have grades of C or better in major subjects. Grades below C
in major subjects require a letter of recommendation
requesting an exception completed by an academic officer at
the school
Demonstrate financial need.
Applications are available through the Business Office
starting in January of each school year.
The amount
provided will vary according to the financial need of the
applicant.
Deadline for all
applications is April 1st.

must
include
the most recent grade report of no less than two quarters
academic work and verification of family income.

This is a four-year full tuition scholarship awarded to entering
ninth graders. Scholarships are awarded based on the results of
an Archdiocesan-wide scholarship-testing program. Criteria for
participation are established by the Connelly Foundation and
publicized through each parish elementary school.


This is a four-year scholarship meeting 80% of the Archdiocesan
tuition cost awarded to an entering ninth grader. The award is
made before the start of the Freshman year based on Bishop
McDevitt’s scholarship test results, academic performance,
recommendation of eighth grade teacher, and school’s Financial
Assistance Application.


Based on available funds, the school administers memorial grants
in memory of persons associated with the school. Listed among
these awards are those honoring the memory of:

Several Educational Fund Board of Trustees Partial Scholarships
are awarded to incoming Freshmen. Applicants must take Bishop
McDevitt’s Scholarship test administered at the school in
November. Date, time, and fee are published in parish bulletins
and parish schools as well as at High School Nights. Top scorers
will be interviewed and asked to submit essays. Selected
students will receive partial scholarships renewable each year
upon fulfillment of stated criteria. Additional information will
be supplied upon registration for the Scholarship Examination.


Several partial renewable academic scholarships sponsored by the
faculty and friends of McDevitt are awarded to incoming
Freshmen. Applicants must demonstrate strength of character,
academic excellence, leadership potential, and service to
others. Applicants must take Bishop McDevitt’s Scholarship test
administered at the school in November.
TO BE ELIGIBLE,
WINNERS MUST BE REGISTERED TO ATTEND BISHOP MCDEVITT PRIOR TO
THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF AWARDS.


These
awards are need-based and are applied to tuition for currently
enrolled students funded through the Educational Fund and other
sources. Applicants must file the school’s Financial Assistance
Application available at the Business Office and be interviewed
and approved by the school President.


These awards are available to incoming Freshmen based on
proficiency in music/art in conjunction with previous academic
performance and future promise. Awards are partial scholarships
and are renewable upon fulfillment of stated criteria.

WINNERS MUST BE REGISTERED TO ATTEND BISHOP MCDEVITT PRIOR TO
THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF AWARDS.


The Alumni Association of Bishop McDevitt High School offers a
one year scholarship to students entering ninth, tenth,
eleventh, or twelfth grade who meet established criteria. At
least one parent, grandparent or legal guardian must be a Bishop
McDevitt graduate.
