An
Invitation To Respect The Diversity of All Nations
Written by Michael Jaecks
On October 24, 2005, approximately 100 members of
the Dag Hammarskjold Chapter of the World Affairs
Club entered the auditorium for a very special day.
These students did not go to class, but instead
took part in Bishop McDevitt’s International Forum, more
commonly known as United Nations Day.
 |
Diverse guest speakers came in order to
address the important issues affecting
every part of the world we live in. The
students, who were able to get
approximately 170 friends and family
members to sponsor the event, paid for
these speakers. The students received
the program listing the guest
speakers and activities.
The students
checked in with the class
delegates, and received their programs.
After taking their places in the
auditorium there was an invocation
given by Rev. Brother Denis, F.C., from
Quebec, Canada. |
|
John DiCamillo, Bishop McDevitt alumnus,
gave a reflection on World
Youth Day in Cologne, Germany. Mr.
Benjamin Weidemer from the Archdiocesan
Pontifical Mission Society spoke on
the Church in Africa. Following a
short break, Dr. Pablo Zuniga, from the
Organization of the American States discussed "The Spirit of Democracy and
the Dominant Issues Existing Within
South America, Latin America and the
Caribbean." Then, lunch
was served. Scroll down for
pictures of the memorable event.
