Robotics Team inspires young students using STEM

Students from the McDevitt Robotics team recently spend a day at the US Headquarters of Glaxo Smith Kline at the Navy Yard in Philadelphia. They had the opportunity to inspire young students to think about STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) during Take Your Children to Work Day.  In a series of separately hosted seminars, we joined representatives from the Franklin Institute and GSK scientists to present various interactive activities. Everything from making tooth paste to building small electrical circuits was part of the day.  The McDevitt students helped the children understand engineering by demonstrating how our robot uses sensors to understand it’s environment.  The children also got a feel for how computer programming works to control electricity to vary motor speed, and of course they had some fun driving the robot.  We were very honored to be invited us to this event. Spreading the benefits of STEM is part of our mission and we are thankful for this opportunity.
