This course begins at the French Revolution of
1789. It traces the evolution of monarchy,
democracy, the Industrial Revolution, the
revolutions of 1830, 1848, 1870-1871. The course
compares the development of Western Europe with the
problem development of Russia during the 1800s. The
unification of modern nations of Germany and Italy
are covered.
The movement of European nations into a control over
African nations, the peoples of the Middle East,
rule over China, India, and the nations of Asia is
discussed in depth. A study of each of these areas
coming up to the present day is included. Student
usage of newspapers and magazines is a help in
getting current information on each area.
The causes and effects of World Wars I and II are
discussed. A discussion of the world affairs during
the “Cold War” is included. The world since
1989–the end of the Berlin War-is covered in
detail–up to the present year.
The position of the United States of America in each
of these times/areas is included.
