Advanced Placement American History

Course Goals:

  • To Study and analyze the causes, events, circumstances and personages who have had a contributing effect on the growth and development of the United states of America

American History Survey

  • Text: Boyer’s, The American Nation c. 2001.

Course Goals:

  • To Study and analyze the causes, events, and personages, who have had a contributing effect on the growth and development of the United States of America

American Government and Politics

  • Text: Magruder’s, American Government c. 2001(Honors)

  • Text: Basic Principles of American Government c. 2004

Course Goals:

  • To study and analyze the foundations of and the establishment of the American Political System. Emphasis will be given to the U.S. Constitution, Bill of Rights, The Supreme Court, Political Parties, Voting Behavior, Foreign Policy and various State and Local Government organizations.

Student Requirements:

  • All students are expected to be on time for every class.
    All students are expected to adhere to the Discipline policy of Bishop McDevitt High School.
     

Evaluation Procedure:

  • All grades will be compiled based upon the student’s ability to fulfill all requirements.
    Each quarter will contain at least 3 major quizzes and tests.
    A “participation quotient” will also be assessed i.e.being prepared for class and the quality of assignments submitted--both projects and homework assignments.
     
    Your student’s learning experience should be a cooperative effort on the part of you the parents, and “Mr. History.” All assistance is encouraged. Every student is required to bring a sense of humor to class.

  • Compliance with all the above will insure your student an enjoyable learning experience.
     

Thank you for sending your student to Bishop McDevitt. It is an honor to teach such a talented group of young men and women. Sharing an experience is a fun way to learn.
