Students may enroll in a
Four Year
Art Program
that covers:
ART FOUNDATION
An
introduction to the elements and principles of design,
A varied use of mediums and techniques,
A broad coverage of subject [portrait, figure, nature,
design,
perspective, calligraphy, animation, art history,
criticism, etc.]
2-D, 3-D DESIGN
An
extension of basics in four areas that include:
Architecture-history, drafting, model making, architects
Sculpture-modeling, carving, casting, construction,
sculptors
Ceramics-hand building techniques: pinch pot, coil,
slab,
drape mold and modeling
Surface Design-overall pattern, tessellations [Escher],
tanagrams,
decorative ornament based on design history
PRINTMAKING/COMMERCIAL
Printmaking processes applied are Relief [lino and
woodcut],
Intaglio [etching], Collagraph, Planograph ic
[lithograph, monotype] and Stencil [silkscreen].
Printmakers are researched; matting and mounting is
mastered.
Commercial Art projects cover logos, layout,
advertisements, package, fashion, interior and set
design. Computer programs are utilized and design
movements investigated.
PORTFOLIO
Sixteen
to twenty works are completed for portfolio review.
Portrait, figure, design, architectural rendering,
perspective drawings, genre, landscape, still life,
distortion (grid), sculptures, variations on a theme,
metamorphosis, caricatures, research papers, Art History
Survey with focus on ISMs and American Art, as well as
special interest subjects of individual students are
projects. Courses integrate Art History, critiques
of master/student works, research/museum visits.
GRADING
Grades
are based on: Four major tests [projects] 80%
Quarterly assessment/class mark 20%
[RUBRICS
are used for all projects.]
Additional points are earned for sketchbook drawings,
reports on Art books read or museums visited, outside
courses taken, contests, posters, etc. Points are added
to the project with the lowest mark.


MEETINGS:
Members meet monthly on the first Monday in school
from 2:45 to 3:00 PM, in the Art Room.
MEMBERS:
Students in Art classes and anyone interested in joining
is welcomed.
PURPOSE:
Threefold: enrichment, social and service [Membership
plans the crafts,
activities, and field trips, that differ from year to
year.]


MEETINGS:
Members meet monthly on the fourth Monday in school
at 2:45 in the Art Room.
MEMBERS:
Students with a 90 or above average are invited to
candidacy.
They must maintain a 90 average, strive for excellence,
and be
willing to put their art abilities to the service of the
school and
community. The qualities of service, integrity,
leadership and
character are emulated by these students.
PURPOSE:
NAHS Chapter Constitutions states its purpose is to
recognize
outstanding art ability, foster excellence, bring art to
the
attention of the school and community, integrate the
arts into
other areas of the school curriculum.
