Boys Head Coach – James Williams
Before coming home to Bishop McDevitt, since his graduation in 1992, he spent two years serving as the Director of Track & Field and Cross Country at Cardinal O’Hara High School. In 2017, his programs won the PIAA District Championship in Cross Country and Track & Field, the Philadelphia Catholic League Championships in Track and Cross Country. In addition, he was named PCL Coach of the Year for 2017, and has coached several individual Catholic League Champions.
Before coaching High School his resume is a reflection of serving 15 years as a NCAA Head Track & Field Coach at Gwynedd Mercy University, Cabrini College, West Chester University, and Cheyney University.
He began his coaching career at Gwynedd-Mercy College, where he coach 5 ALl-Conference Athletes and the 2001 Individual Conference Cross Country Champion. While at Gwynedd-Mercy, he also served as a member of the NCAA Mid-East Region Championship Selection Committee.
His next stop was West Chester University, where he coached 5 NCAA Qualifiers and 15 All-PSAC athletes, and Individual Champions in the following events; the Women’s Heptathlon, Men’s 800, and Women’s 400. In additional, while at WCU he served as a member of the PSAC Championship Games Committee.
After leaving WCU he returned to his Alma Mater Cabrini College, where he was named USTFCCCA Division III Coach of the Year in 2004 and 2008. He was named ECAC Coach of the Year in 2007. His teams finished in the Top 15 Nationally in Division III, in 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008. During his tenure at Cabrini College, he has coached over 25 Division III All Americans, 50 All-ECAC Athletes, 10 ECAC Champions, and one individual National Champion in the Men’s Triple Jump. He also served, as Mid-East Region Representative and a member of the NCAA Academic Committee.
After leaving Cabrini College, he was appointed Head Track & Field Coach at Cheyney University, where he coached 5 NCAA National Championship Qualifiers and two Individual Conference Champions in the following events; Women 55m and 200m.
